What is Brief Monster?
Brief Monster is an iPhone app that explains letters from German authorities, landlords, debt collectors and doctors. Take a photo of the letter or upload a PDF. The app tells you in plain English what they want, works out the deadline and, if you like, drafts a reply in German. Legal statements come with the § and the source.
Which letters and bills does Brief Monster understand?
Any letter in German: Brief Monster explains it and finds the deadline. Specialised monsters check utility and heating bills (Nebenkosten), problems with your flat, tradesperson invoices, payment reminders, debt collection and court payment orders (Mahnbescheid), the broadcasting fee (Rundfunkbeitrag), private doctor's bills (GOÄ), faulty purchases, travel problems, and subscriptions and contracts. For letters from the Jobcenter, the tax office or about a fine, it explains the content and the deadline.
How much does Brief Monster cost?
The download is free, and you can try it free for three days – with one chat. After that the subscription costs €12.99 a month or €89.99 a year. You can cancel any time in the App Store; if you cancel within the three trial days, you pay nothing.
Is Brief Monster legal advice?
No. Brief Monster is an AI that gives information and drafts letters; you check them and decide. It does not replace legal, tax or medical advice. For difficult cases, consumer advice centres (Verbraucherzentrale), tenants' associations (Mieterverein) or a lawyer can help.
Does Brief Monster send my reply?
No, every reply is a draft. Copy it into your e-mail or take the finished PDF letter and send it yourself. The app tells you how to prove that it arrived, for example by registered mail (Einschreiben).
Where is my data stored?
Your documents are stored encrypted on servers in the EU. Your messages are answered by an AI model from OpenAI that we reach through OpenRouter; the content is processed in the USA under Standard Contractual Clauses and is not used for training. You can delete your account in the app at any time.

Not at the moment: Brief Monster is available for iPhone only.
